Walvis
Sir James Hector, a founding member of Wellington, New Zealand's colonial museum, is honored by having this whale bear his name. Rarely has the species been observed in the wild.Reaching a maximum length of about 4.2 meters and weighing roughly 1 ton. One of the smallest of the beaked whales.
This particular species hasn't ever been hunted and hasn't gotten caught in fishing gear. The majority of the whale sightings have been beached specimens, mainly in New Zealand.
