Auchterlonie Museum (Twee Rivieren 36km)

An old stone and grass thatch cottage in Kgalagadi transfrontier park, built at the start of the first world war to house troops watching over a borehole nearby.

The borehole itself was meant for troops advancing into German South West Africa — today's Namibia, or fighting in the area, which was near a border.

Subsequent years saw the cottage used as a farm house, though the harsh Kalahari weather limited activities to hunting and small scale animal husbandry.
